Maiya Lynn Heathman is currently a sophomore at Indiana University Bloomington. Although it is not her first year in college, it is her first year attending classes in Bloomington. She spent her first year studying at IUSB [Indiana University South Bend] which is closer to her home. IUSB is a community college. She decided to make the transition to a larger University with ease. While talking with Maiya about her decision and why she made it, I could tell she was very content with her decision by the way she spoke with so much confidence. "I like how I am surrounded by more people my age. There are little to no adults in any of my classes and it makes the college experience a lot more enjoyable." She also explained how living in the dorms was a great difference from IUSB. "The over all feel of knowing I am further away from home and finally completely on my own gives me a sense of freedom. It also helps me become more responsible. I am finally having to think for myself without my dad being a short drive away from campus." It only seems natural to have pros and cons of both IU Bloomington and IUSB, but Maiya had nothing but good things to say about IU Bloomington and nothing really good to say about IUSB. It is clear she has strong opinions on both.
Scott Linton is a freshmen in college. He is currently attending IUSB . He lives 20 minutes from campus so he chooses to commute to classes. "I chose to attend IUSB because of the tuition and because I can work and make money." While further speaking with Scott, I noticed he really does not like the environment. "There are so many adults in all my classes, and I see the same people in all of my classes. It's hard to meet new people." He also mentioned how excited he gets when he hears all his friends who had gone away to college are coming home for some time. "I plan on transferring to either IU Bloomington or Ball State for the next fall semester. I do not regret my decision of staying home for college because I have been making money, and I like making money."
